Which Air Mattress for my Ibex Roll-a-cot®?

Posted by Leo Vandenberg on

Which Pad will fit in my Ibex Roll-a-Cot? Well it depends.

The simple answer:

If you have a 28" Wide cot a mattress up to 2" Thick by 20" wide mattress should fit.

If you have a 32" Wide cot a mattress up to 2" Thick by 25" wide mattress should fit.

Which style of air mattress should I use? (I.E. Self inflating, or just a plain Air Mattress)

They all have advantages and disadvantages:

Self inflating Air Mattress:

The advantage of a Self Inflating mattress is when blown up it is very rigid and firm. So it pushes in easier. Also many self inflating pads come with some "R" value. This provides insulation and more warmth. I typically recommend the Thermarest® Base Camp: https://cascadedesigns.com/products/basecamp-sleeping-pad.

Disadvantage Of this system is they tend to be less compact. You cannot leave the air mattress in the sleeve and Roll up the cot.

Air Mattress:

The Advantage of the Air Mattress is it's thin. Slide it in deflated and blow it up once it's in the sleeve. Deflate it and Roll it up with the cot when you're done.

Disadvantage: Is they don't provide extra "R" value for insulating you.

Tips and Tricks:

Having trouble putting an air mattress in? It'll be easier to Slide in without the legs inserted. This is because the cot top has been pulled tight yet.

Want to leave an air mattress in the cot? When you wake up, open the air valve on the mattress and let it deflate with you body weight.
